“Streaming is one of those things that sounds great on paper, but absolutely KILLS you in the implementation.”

There is so much truth to this statement. But having been to many a church board meeting, it’s understandable why so many churches take the broad crooked path to spending too much on the wrong worship technology.

Here’s a seminar presentation that might help the original poster: http://www.savweb.com/2011/11/advanced-streaming-media-presentation/ (click on the blue link for the PDF).

At the church business meeting, using the free Flash Media Live Encoder with a spare computer in the pastor’s study seems like a good idea, especially budget-wise. Then reality hits. After then spending the money for bandwidth, modern computer, CDN fees, etc., the cheap proposition then becomes a large cumulative expense.

BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO GO THAT WAY

Often, unnecessary expenses are incurred by houses of worship because someone who professes to be an expert is not. Sandy Audio Visual has been in the AV business for over 40 years, and has been streaming since 1997. There has been a lot of technological change in that time. Most of the changes have enhanced the ability for spreading the gospel more effectively and at a reduced cost. Used incorrectly, it could have the opposite effect.

A good idea before spending a lot of money would be to contact a streaming media consultant or attend a technology for worship workshop or seminar. There are also free resources kicking about the web at this great forum and other material like the link I provided above.

It is possible to have an effective streaming media ministry and be good stewards of church funds. The two are certainly not mutually exclusive.
